The title pretty much says it all. What kind of articles/content do you want to see in the Astro Mag?

This will give the editorial team a better idea of what sort of content to look for, as well as inspire some members to go "Oh, I can do that!", thus giving us more articles.

Well let's see, of the top of my head:

- Some more Kill-Team stuff. Need to check with Ark if he still has that old article I send him, lost it when my laptop burned out.
- An Astro Mag showcase, simpel and fast way to get more shiny content in there. Just having a few pages of pics in there might motivate others to build their own armies and perhaps even to send in some pics for future issues.
- Some tactics articles, tons of good stuff on Astro here that could be used.
- Expensive, but I'd love to see a product review every now and then. Just somebody who buys a certain new product for his army (or just for fun) and takes a through the kit, the pros, cons, left-overs and alternatives bits.
- Etc, etc, etc ;)

I got more free time coming up, I'll see what I can sort out. Anybody up for a Regiments of the Guard part 2? Quite a few new or still undiscussed regiments and out there:

- bloodpack (maxmini bits for example, goblin head conversions)
- bretonnian bits
- genestealer cult (flagellants, genestealer bits, new skaven etc)
- chemdogs
- marauder bits
- converting your own Ellysians (old scout conversion guide from Chapter Approved)
- mechanicus
- some of Astro's member's own created regiments
- etc?

I do believe the next issue was going to focus a tad on Chaos, so I could do something very similar to this but than with CSM
Stuff I could do:
- Word Bearers (already did the flame backpacks)
- Alpha Legion (have an old, yet unseen conversion that would be perfect - in between normal and Chaos Space Marines)
- World Eaters (warriors of chaos + berzerkers + csm bits)
- Death Guard (cyclops helmet, making ooze, old school shoulderpads to make them look more bulky)
- Iron Warriors (maxmini heads, normal head conversions, simple bionics etc)
- Fallen Angels (dark angels + csm stuff...uber simple, but fun)
- The Purge (see my log, drum-loaded bolters, inverted backpacks etc)
- Skyrar's Dark Wolves (renegade Space Wolves, more on these in a week or 2 ;)
- whatever else I can come up with

No direct ideas on these:
- Black Legion...main list, more a matter of getting the colourscheme right
- Emperor's Children...not really my thing, too space elfy, though a stereo for a mouth would be cool
- Thousand Sons (very good already, nigh impossible to build yourself - Maxmini has some excellent heads)
- Night Lords......not a clue

This is rather turning into a hefty list, and a ton of free Maxmini advertisement :D

Some other stuff I'd like:

-Conversions/Modelling for the light-in-cash (could really help :D )
-Sculpting! This is a topic 40kzines rarely touch on, I wanna see more of these
-Awesome artwork. 40k art is one of the coolest things about the hobby
-Fluff, fluff and more fluff. Lots of nicely written, I-see-what-you-did-there-twists involved stories!
-More ads...

That's right. Seriously, the more ads you include, the bigger prizes you can offer and the greater the number of people dowloading, ESPECIALLY if you get regular advertisers who can link to the mag in their repsective news pages etc. etc. etc.

Some other stuff I'd like to see less of/done better:

-Battle reports. IMO, 40kzines have a habit of including wall-of-text battle reports with no real incentives for the viewer to read it to the end. Some ways to make it better could be more dynamic first-person-esque photography, updates on the "story" of the battle before and after every turn, and even some accompanying artwork if it could be arranged.
-Painting tutorials. They are great and awesome and lovely. Especially simple ones! I'd like to see some aimed at REAL noobs... like myself! Don't assume years of doing the hobby guarantee painting finesse. Go back to the basics and show how to apply basecoats, proper drybrushing, simple blending etc.

Well i just read my first copy of Astro-Mag last night, and well what can i say, absolutly fanatstic. Riveted from begining to end. The only thing i didn't enjoy was the way the Battle report was written. But hey, cant win them all!

Do you mean someone reviews an army list that folks submit, or review an entire codex? There could be a pair of guys writing the article done up like they are having a conversation. I'm sure you've seen something similar in a magazine, but those are typically interviews. Similar format.

Working on that again as of yesterday! So of you may remember the old datasheet project see blow), need to update the lott (minor fluff changes, 2-3 rule changes etc) and then it is on to the leftover stuff and yet unused ideas ;)

I've just noticed my beloved datasheet project thread has disappeared. I've been working of my usbstick for a while now, while my exams have prevented me from checking up on the thread itself. It looks like with the transfer from the old to the new forum a few posts/thread have gone astry. To help people get started and to get those creative juices flowing I have put together the following list of suggestions. Many thanks to everybody who has contributed to this!


Chaos Space Marines and Traitor Guard
- Sabbat World Archons
- Cult of the Voice

Cypher update, some fallen what more can you ask for;)
- Volscani Cataphracts and Leviathan Command Transport
- Old chaos warmachines like the plaguetower, subjegator titan, questor titan, the banelord, lord of battle etc.

Adding elites like veterans, mercs like loxatl and naturally their airforce and the stalker tanks.

Inquisition
(my apologies for combining the Ordo Malleus and Ordo Hereticus into one entry)
- Something with the devotion of the Sororitas to their old monastaries, so a terrain related datasheet that for example gives them an advantage when defending or assaulting a holy relic/sanctuary.
- High Priesthood of Terra, some higher ranking ecclesiary (or however you spell it) members. Any of these sheets would make for an excellent addition to any loyalist force.
- Flight of Angels - somehow do something more with the living saints. Not sure what, perhaps a special seraphim retinue for Celestine?
- Grey Knight Inner Counsil, counsil of senior members only used against the most dire of daemonic infestations.
- Zealots, a WD a while back (30th year issue I think) had rules for those. A minor expansion on those would result in a very colourful, well playable and also easy to build unit. Any spare human mini can be used, or the true fanatics can convert each and every one of them
- Inquisitiorial tribunal. Two different version could be very easy made for the ordo malleus and the ordo hereticus.
- Ordo Xenos Investigation Team and Xeno Biologists. This has enormous potential, but is a bit tricky to get right.
- Super Heavy, something like DocThunder’s vehicle.
- Adeptas Sororitas Regiment (already WIP)
- Exorcist Armoured Regiment

Dark Eldar
- Vect's Inner Circle
Asdrubael's personal guard of incubi and archons.
- Warp Monstrosity
Larger,wyche arena spawned, warpbeast.
- Urien Rakarth’s Madness
The haemonculus’ retinue and insane creations.

Though impractical a fully functional ork sub would be amazing.

All Ork codexes so far have state that on many occassions meks band together on a mek boss.
It has already been rumored though that the release of Codex Orks will be linked to 2-3 new
datasheets including a trukk mob and this Mek Mob.
- Battle Fortress (not really necessary)
- Landed Rok
More structure than vehicle, but comes close to a crashlanded fortress that spews out its occupants and their ammo-overburdened vehicles.
- Dread and Kan factory
Something like what was done in the Apocalypse book.

Freebooters datasheet, allowing for more than 1 freebooter unit etc.

Been planning on updating the old sheets and work on new ones for quite a while. The thing is just that this is a rather time consuming task and I hardly get time for the normal adminy stuff and my own hobby junk. Still it's slowly happening, so little progres is better than none I'd say.

Initially I was thinking along the lines of someone taking a codex and writing up a 750 pt list, along with a short Tactica on how it's going to work and what armies they think it'll will be effective against.

Ask for volunteers to have a battle using only the lists published, and then in the next issue publish their battle reports and how effective the army was, along with two new lists from another codex.

If you want I'll start the ball rolling with a revised version of the 750 SM list I posted in the Army Lists forum.

The battle report might be a bit cumbersome to pull off. What about picking a list off of Astro and go through it unit by unit? Sticking with a unit/army overview might be the best option, though.

Anything specific to a race (Tau, Imperial Guard, etc) or unit type (infantry, vehicle, etc)?

We've gotten a few (better than none!) comments on the blog (linky here (http://mag.astronomican.com/2010/02/issue-7-wish-list/)) about what folks want to see in the Mag. The two ideas are secret objective cards for missions, at least that is how I understood it, and advice on choosing an army for the new players.

While I've got no ideas for the first idea, the second one I do.

LAZtheInfamous wrote up a 40k army matrix (http://astronomican.com/forums/showpost.php?p=155813&postcount=19)to help folks pick an army. It has been a great resource to point folks toward when they ask, and giving it some more feedback only helps to refine it (http://astronomican.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10539). If we could also fill out the missing sections from this list (http://astronomican.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8826), that would be fantastic.

Any other ideas/requests? Anyone up for doing product reviews (new GW kits, existing kits, books, etc)?

Apologies if I come across as demanding, I've just hit a stride tonight in the ideas department :grin:

I've been extremely busy so my promised articles are only notes on paper right now. Though go ahead and use the Nid ichor and arcane ruins kit review if they're useful. I'll try to come up with some more stuff, no promises though as I'm even having trouble finding the time to get on Astro these days >_<
