Default Astro Painting Survivors - Series 3!

Good morning fellow Astronites, and welcome to Opening Day of Series 3! If I may briefly run through the rules, as a couple have changed and also for anyone taking part that hasn't before.

First, today is opening day, and anyone wishing to take part needs to post the opening pic of their first project before midnight tonight. This is just an opening pic, so the curent state of the offering doesn't matter as long as it's ready to start or continue work on.

Second. The Series will last for 20 complete progress posting days unless we have a 'Last Man Standing' before that time. Today does not count, as today's pics are not progress pics. Anyone who misses a posting day for any reason at all is out, no excuses. Posting days will be every third day from today, so the first progress pics need to be up on April 13th, then the 16th and so on.

Third. When posting a new pic, you should post it alongside one of your previous posting day's pics so that we can all compare the pics and see the progress that has been made - remember, the key words for posting are 'Visible Progress'.

Fourth, all posts are made according to the Astro site clock, regardless of what time is showing on any other chronometer or where you are in the world. You do have a whole 24hrs in which to make each post, so I expect that people will simply plan their posts accordingly.

Fifth. Progress is paintwork and any basing work, though we expect a reasonable amount of work for the 3 days we have between posts.

This is kind of a community project, not a dictatorship, so all aspects of the Series are open for discussion, and it's main aim is to keep people painting above all else, so win or lose, survive or perish, if you take part you're a winner in my book.

And with that, let me make the first offering, which in keeping with tradition, is the unit I was about to start at the very end of Series 2, my Ork Shootas!

So, who remembered that today is opening day then?

Ok I've got a unit of termagants to complete:

There are 6 to paint as you can see in the corner of that picture.

Most of the other stuff will be painted too for this challenge. But as I have exams and such coming up in june; we may see me fail epicly.

EDIT: I'm giving some reminders to people too. Can't have it just being you and me Eternus.
EDIT II: As many reminders sent out in as cheesy a manner as possible. If you think I've forgotten you and you're reading this well... err...

Nice one QG, thanks. Depending on how far I make it before little Eternus appears, I may try some Nid work myself.

I had not forgotten! My first planned project is an Ork Shokk Attack Gunner for my girlfriend Ania's Bad Moonz army. Yesterday was all about trimming, filing, pinning and drinking:

I've already hit a snag. There's a rather large gap at the join of the left arm. It's visible in the third pic but much worse at the back. I've never used nor do I own any Green Stuff but I have ordered some so hopefully it will arrive in time for me to fix it and prime the model at least. I may start something else just in case. I'm not exactly short of unpainted models

    Hi hi,

its good to be back in the painting survivor saddle for another series!

This time I shall, once again, mostly be representing the Ancient world as I shall be working on my Early Imperial Roman Army for WAB...

Legionarries to begin, nothing to special but every army must start somewhere!

Each model will end up looking like this guy; Legionairre Paintus Testus II

    The rest of the unit

And the rank I have completed already

I'm gonna try and get back to the thread a bit more often for this series to comment and encourage my fellow painters which I shalll do tomorrow

I wouldn't say converting/modelling counts as it's a painting challenge (and I'd not like to change that as assembling is something I don't need motivation for ).

Great to see another series. No camera and lack of net time at present make it impossible for me to join the antics, but I shall watch with interest.

@Jap:- can't wait to see Dr Hugh painted up. I've been meaning to pick up the range from Heresy for a while. I have a Nerd Lord and some companions from Crooked Dice but I do really like Heresy's stuff. The fact that Andy Foster sculpts them is just a nice little touch, that being my name and all...

It seems ages since my part in the last series.
Well, I haven't visited my Space Wolves for a long, long time. So, I intend finishing these 5 Grey Hunters...

Also, in the back of my painting box, you may be able to see Josef Bugman and a Catachan Jungle Fighter from about 9 years ago

I'd be inclined to say that to keep within the scope of the title of Astro Painting Survivors, only paint work and finshing like bases and banners, should count. Otherwise we're broadening the theme a little too far for the purpose of the experiment, which is to get people painting. I know where you're coming from, because I've got a load of Dark Eldar to finish assembling, but until they're ready for some paint, they probably belong in the WIP's.
