Default (complete) Blood pact sculpting guide

Ok, title says it. in this log you'll learn the basics of how to sculpt your very own pactee wackty warriors. i'm doing this partly for the benefit of others, i'm also hoping to submit a full version of this for the magazine.

    so, heres part 1:

Take on imperial guardsman, apply craft knife until he looks like un-cadian, but still armoured:

then, apply green stuff to remove the area's where the torso doesn't meed with the body. if you want you can sculpt in a zipper on the groin. Next take a peice of GS, roll it quite thinly and form a belt. :

for the hoops, use a similar technique, except lay it over the belt and flatten. this will result in over lay, as shown in image 2, simply cut away the overlay (a craft knife is my prefrence) and neaten up until you're basic body is completed.

After that smooth it down until it is clean and can cure ready for the next stage, show below. personally i favour some roughness to show and make it easier to paint the haggard nature of the pact, but this is entierly my prefrence.

Rather a short begging, but next comes arms, and pending an experiment with the helmet, how to sculpt a grotesque!

Coming soon - Part II: Rise of the grotesque

i put a little diorama up under the imperial guard section which has gaunt fighting 2 blood pacters, all i did was use standard kasyrkin, filing off eagles etc, carving some damage into the plating and little greenstuff grotesques. At the time i thought they were grand but i wish id thought of the 'lower half'. only thing id add is that i believe BP are equivalent to a grenadier regiment, so would have carapace armour...

all in all tho very nice way to make em "chaosey"

    ok, part II.

sadly, i haven't got the mask done yet, so i've decided to get the rest of the model done with this session.

firstly, take a pair of arms and head and begin shaving off the aquilla, and at least one should guard.

For the helmet you have two choices, firstly attempting a bowl helmet. its cut a little closer to the head than the other helmet, shown to the right is. the one on the right is just the aquilla free helmet with its side sections saved off to remove the cadian feeling:

once you've decided how your going to stick the arms and head down, you can then sort out the armour, and if you've done the bowl rim, remove the mistakes:

so, next comes the khorne icons, additions like grenades, khorne icons and such, and of course, the grotesque!

the third and final part: grotesques

firstly, apply a basic layer of GS over the mouth of the guardsman. then, using a craftknife, cut the the square for the mouth. once your happy cut in as many teeth as you want, here i've gone for a subtle four.

Once your happy with the mouth, the next stage it to score in the mouth creases at the side. if you've done it like me, theres a little too much gs, not to worry, just push this up to form the fraimwork for the nose. you'll need some more gs, tiny amount, to add the notch to the chin, and then the nose itself, done simply by pushing the sides of the nose down, and then pushing in a pair of nostril's, giving it an enlarged look.

finally, as a detail, i always add khorne symbols on the shoulder pad

easy to do, just add a square peice of gs, cut in the basic symbol, then remove the excess. if its a bit spindly, like mine was, press down the gs, and then use the craft knife to neaten up and add the central triangle.

and you finished trooper should look like this:

    hope this helps
